Midjourney is an artificial intelligence program developed by LeapMotion founder Dave Holz. It is one of the more recent forays into Artificial Intelligence Art.
Until recently, the SCP Wiki has not allowed AI-generated imagery. Some Creative Commons Projects, such as Wikimedia, allow AI art based on US Copyright rulings which appear to suggest that imagery whose composition of the substance of the work was created by a machine, rather than a human, are ineligible for copyright and are therefore public domain. The SCP Wiki licensing team played things a little more cautiously, and issued guidance and policies which did not allow this type of imagery regardless of its legal status.
Recently, Midjourney offered many things the Licensing team traditionally looks for when attributing works: a source of ownership, a method to determine what an image may be derived from, and a hard link which can be used as a source in creating attribution. For this reason, we are allowing images created by Midjourney AI to be used on the SCP Wiki.

In order to use an image generated by Midjourney AI, the image must:
- be generated by the person wanting to use the image content.
- list "via Midjourney AI" after the author name(s)
- be generated by a user with a paid Midjourney account (free accounts do not produce images with a compatible license)
In addition:
- If it is generated with an image URL prompt, the image used must becompatible with the site License (that image should be included in the license block)
- The license block must include the direct link to the Midjourney footprint
- The license block must include the prompt in raw brackets (because the footprint doesn't show parameters): {{@@prompt here@@}}
Your article will be tagged with _ai. Images that contain ai-generated imagery are subject to removal should legal circumstances change.
